TRANSCRIPT

0:00 Hello and welcome to Mindful in 5, helping you discover your peaceful path. I'm your host Spiwe Jefferson, author of the Mindful in 5 book series.

0:14 Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Mindful Ninjas! (jingle bells) Where are you in this moment? Say present…no, really.. Say present, and channel your mind to be present with me now. Today's special episode, Mind the Presence is a call to embrace the holiday spirit mindfully. It's the season when God lovers the world over celebrate Jesus's birth. It's a time when families come together. And if you're like my family, you also honor the memory of loved ones lost during this season. Amidst the joy and nostalgia, it is crucial to stay present and acknowledge every emotion. For some, this is a very lonely time. Each feeling positive or negative, allows us to fully engage with the sacredness of these moments. The book, Mindful in 5 uses fictional characters to teach you how to apply mindfulness meditation, step by step to each season of your life. During the dark season, Cassie, who teaches a support group explains to her 12 students the dangers of trying to hide from or avoid negative feelings. I think that's something we've all tried. But in my own experience and observation. I have found that running from loneliness, heartbreak, grief, or whatever other negative emotion is fruitless. Better to acknowledge, go through the motion and let it pass like clouds drifting across the sky.

02:16 A powerful element of the Mindful in 5 value proposition is to equip busy people with no time with an easy to remember techniques that you can implement in as little as five minutes. So let's unpack the PEACE technique. To stay centered during the festivities, I invite you to try the PEACE technique, a simple yet powerful practice for mindfulness especially suitable for those with limited time.

02:47 So to start with, just pause, the P is for pause in the holiday rush, pause to breathe in positivity, and then exhale, that's the IE to release the stress and try and embrace clarity and peace instead. So let's try it now. Inhale positivity exhale stress inhale Joy exhale anger.

03:30 The A stands for acknowledge, acknowledge every emotion, be it joy, stress, annoyance, excitement, or whatever it is. For a grounded experience.

03:44 The C is for center, stay focused on the present, choosing joy and gratitude. According to one study, we are generally distracted for more than 47% of the time when we are engaged in activities. So this whole idea of staying focused and being present is actually quite a challenge. And if you find it difficult, just know that you are in very, very good company.

04:17 The E is for engage, Return to your activities with a refreshed peaceful outlook. mindfulness practices like peace have been shown to decrease anxiety and enhance well being making them invaluable during the holidays.

04:36 Now, I didn't say it was easy. I just am saying that it's worth it. This season is about reflection, celebration and gratitude. Even if it seems there's little to celebrate. Start with the breath in your body. Celebrate health, family and life's gifts. As I like to say, you attract what you reflect, and what you focus on grows. God lovers, you've heard this principle framed as seek and you shall find, ask and you shall receive, knock and the door shall be opened. The PEACE technique helps magnify positivity and peace in your life.

05:25 As we wrap up, remember the holiday essence, reflection, joy and gratitude. Christian God lovers, let us celebrate with joy the birth of Jesus. Devotees celebrate the arrival of the Christ consciousness embodied in the baby Jesus. Implement the PEACE technique daily, starting with a five minute morning centering, then take brief timeout as needed throughout the day. This technique is especially useful if you've got a house full of people, and you find that sometimes tempers run short. To provide you with additional support. You can find links to three other episodes especially useful over the holidays. Episode 67 in the Mindful in 5 podcasts, Managing Relationship Access; Episode 63, Manage Holiday Relationships with the Relationship Triangle, and Episode 61, Overcoming Stress and Anxiety with my guest, Karen Richard, Chief Human Resources Officer of Anderson Corporation. I included the links to each of these in the notes for this particular episode.

06:47 So here's wishing you a peaceful, joyous holiday filled with clarity and defined support. start each day with at least five minutes of centering and reflection to transform your life. Moment by moment. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. And until next week. This is Spiwe saying be mindful and be well.
