Do you hold yourself to impossibly high standards as a leader or criticize yourself harshly for mistakes? Today, we'll explore a mindfulness practice to cultivate greater self-compassion and kindness towards yourself as a leader.
Speaker 1:Those of you who've been following the Mindful and Five Body of Work for some time know that I define mindfulness as being present in the moment without judgment and without being overwhelmed by what's happening around you. That without judgment part is very difficult for so many of us, especially when it comes to self-judgment. So now I will invite you, if it's safe for you to do so to close your eyes and take a deep breath, in and exhale. Bring to mind a recent leadership challenge or mistake. Notice any feelings of self-judgment or inadequacy that arise. Self-judgment or inadequacy that arise Now.
Speaker 1:Imagine yourself as a compassionate mentor, offering understanding, forgiveness and encouragement to yourself. Silently repeat a compassionate leader. May I lead with kindness. You can open your eyes whenever you're ready. By practicing self-compassion, you are creating a more supportive and nurturing inner environment for your growth as a leader. As you encounter setbacks and challenges in your leadership journey, remember to extend the same kindness and understanding to yourself that you would offer a valued team member.
